US-Americans, familiarize yourself with the "wet bulb" temperature: a point at which heat and humidity make it impossible for the body to cool down outdoors, even in a pool, in the shade, with a fan blowing, etc. There is a national wet bulb forecast available. On this website, click on the link to the regional tool to view the specific severity forecast for your area, even down to your neighborhood. My area is forecast to be in the red zone (major) today. 🥵 Good day to keep kids and pets indoors. https://www.weather.gov/rah/WBGT

@kimlockhartga is this not incorporated into the Heat Index? (confused, not critical)

@acm_redfox @kimlockhartga The heat index is the apparent temperature compared to dry air. It is above actual temperature, because more humidity makes you warmer. When humidity is low, heat index gets close to actual temperature. The wet bulb temperature is the temperature your body cannot cool itself to go below. It is below actual temperature, because your sweat cools you. When humidity is high, wet bulb temperature gets close to actual temperature. When wet bulb temperature goes over normal skin temperature, 32 °C / 90 °F, it's dangerous to stay outside for too long.

@kimlockhartga I was in Las Vegas recently for my son's wedding and I got heat exhaustion. My symptoms were nausea and extreme fatigue.Liquid IV electrolyte packets helped enormously. I'm so glad that we packed some.I also experienced heat exhaustion last summer while gardening in the morning. Nausea was the first symptom and I immediately went inside and drank some water with salt. I didn't know about the Liquid IV packets. They really do work.Stay safe and hydrated everyone.
