Terrible idea: a US agency that goes overboard with nationalism and requires you only program in language invented in the USA, by "Native born" Americans. Which languages would that include? C++ is out because while it was developed in New Jersey, it was by a Danish citizen.C# is out, too: Anders Hejlsberg, lead architect of C# is also Danish.Java is also out: James Gosling is Canadian.

There's a lot of weird "he also did" things you find when you research programming language creators.Like how one of the guys who invented BASIC was the chair of the commission that investigated the Three Mile Island nuclear accident, or that two of the guys who developed Go also invented UTF-8.(mind you, one of those guys is Ken Fucking Thompson, who has a rather long resume which includes things like "Unix" and "C" and "grep")

@foone BINAC assembly language. Never mind the machine may never have actually run, but it is 100% murrican, and it too was pushed to make the "first computer" be American... But it wasn't, it was 3rd, SSEM, EDSAC were real stored program machines (the ENIAC hack notwithstanding). So BINAC assembly, or some of the early speed codes. Could consult the Jean Sammet book, she listed origin of a huge number of early (pre 1969) languages. There's some real zingers in there.

@jeff @foone @PJ_Evans imagine having cute furry friends and programming in a language designed to be safe that has the syntax of pascal (easy to read no spaghetti) on REAL COMPUTERS (this is what they don't want you to have)

@foone I could live with C, Smalltalk, and Oberon. Javascript could stick around, I guess.

@foone Brian Kernighan is Canadian. Additionally, standardization came with more features of non-USA origin; const was introduced into C89 by some Danish guy.

@foone since Microsoft owns C#, the Microsoft Corporate Personage is legally granted authorship. This sort of thing happens quietly whenever a large nominally-US-based company needs it to, but the assessment is often left off the books so it can be used selectively to punish foreign coders living in the US.

@foone What about Excel expressions? Their Turing complete - for finite values of infinity right? ( https://github.com/mrthefakeperson/Excel-Virtual-Machine ). Given Excell formula's are a Lotus-123 rip off, I mean, EEE, I mean, interoperable/ compatible, and they were developed in Massachusetts, they should count as duly America made. Ish. Right?
