People ask why Australians don't seem concerned with giant spiders. We are we just have an innate knowledge of which ones are harmless, which ones cause unbearable pain, and which ones are going to kill you if you look at them funny. The first two won't hurt you that bad

@BrodieOnLinux What's the "average" chances or ratio to come across any of the 3 on any given day in semi-city area (some green / parks / wildlife almost)

@freeschool Don't stick your hands in random holes you see in trees, logs and in the ground and you probably won't die. If you see long grass best to avoid that and walk on the path instead but that's more for snakes than spiders.

@freeschool Not personally, usually spiders try to stay away from you. I know a couple of people that unexpectedly came across snakes

@freeschool The real problem is living somewhere that has fire ants, they have 0 fears and will bite anything that gets in there way plus they tend to swarm anything they think is a threat. As the name would suggest it feels like where you got bit is on fire

@freeschool fire ant is a category of different ants, red ant seem to be a name used for them in some places.I don't know if you can eat them, there's not a big market for bugs in Australia. You can get crickets, spiders and such but it's usually a very specialty thing

@BrodieOnLinux Do you encounter those often or is it rare? Compared to small spiders.

@BrodieOnLinux Ibsaw a massive spider the size of a chair on the veranda screen. The screen was made of that plastic fake sheet metal fencing. My grandfather just grabbed the spider and shoved it down the toilet. Found out it was a bird eating spider.

@morgthorakFunnel-web spider bites are extremely toxic and can cause the human nervous system to shut down, resulting in death in 15 minutes flat.Luckily, the anti-venom was discovered in 1981 after which fatalities haven’t been recorded. Still, don’t forget to run the other way if you spot one!'So, everyone has the anti-venom in their house? Everyone carries some with them? Hospitals with the anti-venom are all within 15 minutes?@BrodieOnLinux
