So yesterday I tried to play a bit "Hollow Knight" .. "is this the new trend" to make platforms game INCREDIBLY FRUSTRATING by making some parts really difficult and ANY time you have to re-do "half an hour of complex stuff" to get ti the point to re-try the part you died and die within 3 seconds AGAIN ??!! 😡

@gilesgoat I think trend-wise it all stems from Cave story. That little thing reinvented the wheel in terms of platforming, which had basically stalled since the death of 2D games on consoles. Since then everyone has followed the model of hyper quick reactions, multiple deaths, and constant frustration. Shovel Knight, Braid, Meat Boy, Celeste. I dunno, some people enjoy it, they must be masochists :)

@Gosunkugi @gilesgoat Chill platforming mostly happens in the puzzle-platformer genre these days, and occasionally there's still fresh takes on pure platforming like Onde, but those are rare.
