Ok, fediverse, I am going insane because of these system crashes I've been experiencing lately for apparently no reason.I think it might be a kernel panic, not sure, but it is my only explanation. My suspicion is on certain kernels or even packages such as mesa or amd firmware. But again, I don't know. The system (Fedora 40, latest available kernel on the repos) can get completely locked up randomly. I am not able to reproduce the issue since it is literally random and does not seem to matter what I am doing at that moment.- It won't respond to ping (nor, obviously, ssh)- It won't respond to any keyboard input and in fact the keyboard flat out stops working.- Nothing appears in journalctl, at least that I have seen.- I have done memory tests and they come out clean.- My RAM usage and general temps are fine and low.If some proffesional sysadmin or knowledgable person, creature, whatever luckly reads this, I would extremely appreciate any reply or tips on how to debug this mess. Because I am losing my mind trying to figure out what can it be.I am willing to provide logs and any other info needed. If there is anything I shall censor from them, tell me.Thanks in advance. A boost is appreciated.(EDIT: Very tiny typo)#fedora40 #fedora #linux #linuxhelp #sysadmin #systemadministration #techhelp #techhelpneeded

@AAXSAPNDMF Test your ram with something like this: https://www.memtest86.comThat would be my first guess. Otherwise random crashes are always hard to track down. It could be a faulty disk or for example a faulty sata-cable. How old is the machine and did it run often very hot in the past? Then maybe your cpu is starting to make problems. But my first guess would be faulty ram

@nielsk @AAXSAPNDMF never ever rule out the PSU. If it has voltage drop under load you'll get these crashes but sometimes it will be fine when testing. E.g, a CPU test or memory test doesn't have load from disk usage during the test, so it doesn't trigger the problem when testedprobably less likely to see that scenario on modern systems with PSUs that have multiple rails, but you get the point. I've seen some bizarro stuff due to bad power.

@feld@bikeshed.party @nielsk@mastodon.social I am also suspecting the PSU. At the same time tho... These crashes can happen when doing almost anything (altho I never had them while gaming, not sure if it was luck or whatever).I had them happen while having a bunch of stuff open but not intensive, and maybe a VM or two... And I also had it happen while literally completely in idle
