@kroitus It's not really an alpha, that's just what it's being called. It'll be getting shipped on PopOS

@BrodieOnLinux I still think, it's gonna have lots of bugs... So, I am not gonna install it on first day 😁

@BrodieOnLinux @kroitus indeed and in light of that I doubt they will ship something with breaking bugs, there will still be bugs at the start as that is unavoidable with any software

@BrodieOnLinux @kroitusWanna bet how many I can find on alarm (archlinuxarm) within an hour? The odds of things not dying with panfrost graphics (mali-g710) and/or with llvmpipe (for software decoding, when no gpu is available) is NaN.Most arm stuff doesn't have vulkan.

@BrodieOnLinux yay, more fragmentation and ugly DEs that bring nothing new to the table, BUT IT'S WRITTEN IN RUST

@gloopsies I don't really see it as fragmentation when there is overlap of the implemented Wayland protocols

@BrodieOnLinux it is already hard for new Linux users to decide what distribution/DE to use, having a new option that all the rust fanboys will recommend that is ugly and full of bugs is not helpful to anyone

@BrodieOnLinux Window managers are not the default on any big and popular distributions, Pop!_OS is already fairly popular and you can see it recommended online because they used to have a good stable Gnome/Ubuntu base with up to date Nvidia drivers, now they have completely changed what people liked about it. It's a completely different DE that's very unstable and ugly

@gloopsies The design is absolutely up for debate, I personally don't think breeze looks way better than adwaita, but is it actually unstable though?

@sodiboo @gloopsies Frankly we need competition in the desktop environment space on Wayland, XFCE, Cinnamon and Budgie will eventually catch up but right now if you want to use a DE, if you don't like KDE you have GNOME, if you don't like GNOME you have KDE.

@BrodieOnLinux @sodiboo @gloopsies you've got all the glitter of hyprland + perfect fractional scaling. The horizontal tiling is not for me but it's singular enough to give it a decent chance. Waybar support is not good enough for showing workspaces (a little bit like in early development with hyprland when it wasnt able to show persistent workspaces).

@BrodieOnLinux more excited for Maui Shell tbhnothing wrong with having another DE with a traditional desktop experience, but a more mobile-focused UI built on Wayland is what's really piqued my interest lately

@BrodieOnLinux @sodiboo @gloopsies It took a bit of time to get used to but I've been using it for a couple of months without any major issues (thank you sodiboo for the NixOS support 😁). Most tools I used on Hyprland work on niri but YMMV. One of it's design principles is "opening a new window should not affect the sizes of any existing windows", which I really appreciate.
