In slot based inventory, what do you reckon a slot weighs on average? About 5lbs / 2kg?

@nickdrawthing I recommend that the weight is based on a known volume like they do in Traveller. It's based on displacement of water since we know how much specific volume of water weighs. #ttrpg

@ericmpaq Interesting! I feel like that might be a bit complex for my purposes (being able to spitball how much a horse vs a llama can carry on its back or what have you) but I do like that idea. I feel like for my game I'd benefit mostly from a number that both makes sense generally, and also is easy to work with.

I'm kind of thinking:A slot roughly equals 5lbsA standard adult is 40 slots (Small Trait subtracts 20, Huge Trait adds 20).An adult horse can carry 60 slots (generous based on reality but this is an adventure game)A llama can carry 20 slots. So an average person with their gear should fit a horse, but only a small person with no gear can ride a llama. A Huge person will need to walk if they want to bring anything, or else buy a llama to carry their stuff.A dog can carry 3 slots, as a treat.

@nickdrawthing @ericmpaq Actually, this is really simple and easy to envision. How many gallons/liters of water do you imagine could be carried thing? You know how big a llama is. You know how big a gallon of water is. You know how heavy it is. Work backwards.

@lextenebris @nickdrawthing I have no idea how big a gallon of water is. I’m a metric boy.

@ericmpaq @nickdrawthing You know what a liter of water looks like. You know what a liter of water feels like. You know about how much space a liter of water takes up. The particular unit doesn't matter. Only the fact that you have some experience manipulating it personally. Once you've got that, you can do anything in terms of volumetric analysis. Just apply brain meat.

@lextenebris I also know what a kg of water looks likes (aka it’s the same as a litre).
