       I like following hashtags on Mastodon, this allows me to discover new people and see content I want to see, but on the other hand, it makes my timeline sometimes full of random people I don't know, I did not explicitly follow and that feels like an obstacle in building a community of, how to say it, people I'm getting to know long term. You know what I mean? it's not easy to explain

       @stfn Yeah, I'm not really 'into' hashtags myself. I add them again to my posts, but the engagement I get is often ... meh.

       @collectifission not exactly my point :) I sometimes uses hashtags, and they work, but only for specific hashtags and specific posts

       @stfn I agree. I think it depends how niche or how broad is the hashtag used.For example, I follow both the python and astrophotography hashtags. While I found some interesting people to follow from the python hashtag, it is very "noisy" in the types of toots it is used in.On the other hand, I feel a little sense of community around the astrophotography hashtag. At least, there is a little core of people who interact on a regular basis with each other's posts.In both cases there are people who publish and interact with responses on their posts but never interact with other's posts on the same hashtag.

       @JLW_the_Jobber @stfn and that's exactly what lists are useful for!

       @noodlejetski @JLW_the_Jobber That's a good point, I'll move my followed hashtags into a list

       @noodlejetski @JLW_the_Jobber hmm, but it looks like this is not something that can be done?

       @stfn @JLW_the_Jobber ohhhh, I guess that's just a Moshidon feature, then. it lets me "pin" the hashtag timeline so that I can switch between my main timeline, my list, and the posts tagged with the specific hashtag.

       @stfn Instead of following hashtags I have them pinned as columns (I'm a fan of the deck view). Currently it's gamedev and raspberrypi.
