China has successfully built and demonstrated the first nuclear reactor in the world that is completely meltdown proof, removing the single greatest risk of nuclear power.#cleanenergy https://www.newscientist.com/article/2440388-chinese-nuclear-reactor-is-completely-meltdown-proof/

@yogthos Playing fast & loose with the term #cleanenergy when the mining process isnt clean & the disposal process isnt clean.

@TheEmpororHasNoClothes @yogthos exactly. 'Single greatest' is a redundancy isn't it. There are several great risks with nuclear

@efialto @TheEmpororHasNoClothes the mining process for the rare earth metals you need for solar panels isn't clean either, and disposal problems are highly overblown. Not to mention that fuel can be recycled. Here's the reality of the situation. The hysteria over nuclear in the west is absolutely bonkers.https://ourworldindata.org/grapher/death-rates-from-energy-production-per-twh

@yogthos The problem is you're still feeding ppls addiction to energy - its never enough. Adding more sources just gives ppl the impression that what they're doing now isnt a problem. It's the same with "fusion". And didnt you also claim recently that China produced a method for (cost effective) fusion energy? Pipe dreams.@efialto

@TheEmpororHasNoClothes @efialto fundamentally changing the way human civilization operates in the near term seems like the actual pipe dream here.Mitigating the problems that the current consumerist oriented society creates is actually dealing with the problem.

@yogthos @TheEmpororHasNoClothes but you are not dealing with it augmenting nuclear power. Never additional energy substituted previous one. It always adds up.Besides, uranium world reserves are on decline, wastes are NOT a solved issue by far, and nuclear is oil dependent just as renewables are. All are byproducts of fossils, because of mining, production, transport, maintenance and, in nuclear, containment for 100k years and accidents

@yogthos @TheEmpororHasNoClothes the only solution is degrowth, starting by beheading billionaires. Is it a pipe dream? Time and growing scarcity will tell
