I just digitized a VHS tape produced by Yggdrasil Computing, Inc., titled "Linux - Installation and Beyond" that doesn't seem to be preserved anywhere. It's an interesting look back at what Linux installation was like in 1995, and hopefully should provide some historical context for those of you who weren't (un?-)lucky enough to live through this period of Linux.YouTube: https://youtu.be/2IAa6MYVpVsInternet Archive: https://archive.org/details/linux_-_installation_and_beyond

@twylo I still have a set of Yggdrasil CDs I bought new right around that time. Got a ton of use out of those and saved me from having to download everything over a 14.4kbps modem connection.

@twylo I recall getting X Windows running on that with the little knowledge I had. After that I didn't know what to do with this fully armed and operational Unix station.

@twylo So glad you also put this on Archive. I'm definitely watching this over my lunch break 😊

@fvzappa @twylo So um in my volunteer gig at FOPAL I sometimes peek in the various discard bins. The other day I found in one an Infomagic "Linux Developer's Resource CD-ROM" set from Dec 1994. Looking it up on eBay for a lark I was surprised to find sales for this sort of thing from the 1990s from $20-$35, more if in shrink wrap (the one I had in hand was not). Higher asking prices too, definitely some hopium abuse going on in this market!

@hairyvisionary @fvzappa I have quite the collection of InfoMagic Linux disc sets! I should see if any of mine aren’t yet on the Internet Archive and make sure they’re uploaded.

@twylo @hairyvisionary @fvzappa Please do! Most of those have SunSite archives, which are fun to trawl!
