Ugh, Jolla is in financial straits (again).#SailfishOS is like the only viable alternative to the Apple and Google mobile OS duopoly.I don't understand why the European Union doesn't support this company... It's European, the interface is beautiful, it means independence from US companies, you'd want this to succeed.Anyone have political connections? So given the Dutch demoscene UNESCO announcement:Anyone have experience reading stuff off 25 to 35 year old #AtariST floppy disks?There's some 68k assembly and programs I made that I'd love to see again.Said floppy disks have been on an alternating 10°C and 40°C attic. Attended a great talk yesterday at @dedependance hosted by Nuria Ribas Costa with @Mer__edith and Evelyn Austin (@bitsoffreedom) about #Signal, AI and Europe's "Big Tech Initiatives" (amongst other things).They had an interesting perspective on how Europe can catch up on the US with regards to Big Tech, "the cloud"¹, hyperscalers, etc.Their perspective was: should we even want this? Should we want to copy the US's Big Tech template and perhaps end up like them?¹ such a dumb term1/2

Which is, IMHO, the only viable alternative to iOS and Android at the moment.I've been using it as a daily driver since 2013. With Google locking down Android are there any viable mobile OSs, not based on Android, usable as a daily driver besides #SailfishOS?I haven't used any of the other mobile Linux OSs besides #Sxmo for a short while.And "viable" is of course very subjective but minimally one should be able to make and receive calls without any issues, SMS, mobile data up to 5G and VoLTE, run a Signal client¹ and browser.¹ @Mer__edith please start working on a client for Linux phones (talk with @rubdos)
