Just rewatching Idiocracy, released in 2006. It's starting to seem like Mike Judge was optimistic to think it would take 500 years to get that bad. I think we're maybe ... halfway there already? : P#movies #comedy #satire #MikeJudge #idiocracy

@subpanel > https://gizmodo.com/idiocracy-director-says-its-scary-how-accurate-his-movi-1785499058This article is recursive! Its content illustrates its subject. A couple of examples;> The whole film ultimately advocates for a kind of soft eugenics to fix the entire messIt doesn't advocate anything. It's a satire. If it's hinting at anything, I'd say it's making birth control easier to get, and smart people not letting the state of the world put them off breeding.(1/2)

“It was announced that [the parody ads] were anti-Trump, and I would’ve preferred to make them and then have the people decide.”Mike Judge, 2016"So… right off the bat, Judge says that the ads weren’t going to be anti-Trump."Matt Novak, 2016Please don't make explain why this obviously isn't what Mike is saying. Even without the context of the rest of the article, it seems pretty cut'n'dried to me that Matt is misreading pretty badly here.(2/2)@subpanel

I changed my mind. Biden is definitely the right person to be the President of the US. The President is supposed to represent the nation as a whole, and I can't think of a better person to represent a declining empire, rapidly losing its ability to move around, or remember which lies it's telling this week.In fact, the constitution should be amended so Biden can stay President long enough for an AI, trained on all records of his life as a politician, to take over as President.Biden forever!

@Adoxography> Agree with others this is a terrible take from a usually sensible personWhy? It's satire of;* political gaslighting; denying Biden's cognitive decline, which was already noticable in 2020, and is now obvious to everyone not lost in doublethink* the implication from many of those gaslighting that pointing out the obvious is unacceptable disloyalty* the equally obvious decline of the US empire, which is denied with the same kind of gaslighting* AI in general

I don't have an Orange Felon level ego, so I don't think my little satire is likely to help his chances of being elected. But I do hope it might get a few people to stop and reflect. Leading to a more sensible, reality-based discussion about candidate choice among people who want him to lose (which includes me). (1/2)@Adoxography

Biden's Gaza policy alone motivates a significant number of people to vote for a third candidate. So at this point in history, the inevitable result of the Dems picking Biden (again), despite his obvious cognitive decline, is an organised push to find consensus on a third candidate. The results of this would be anyone's guess. If the Dems want to roll that dice, that's their funeral.(2/2)@Adoxography

@strypey Hey I got your meaning, and I certainly didn't intend anything personal. It's, in my opinion, not that what you said is untrue (and it was in fact funny), it's that it's unhelpful. There is no realistic way to field another D candidate at this point, and it's only to the R's (and Putin's) advantage to sow discord. Only unity and record turnout will save the USA now.Unless the D's are playing 4D chess and *want* a contested convention, which I highly doubt.

@prabirkc > Ha! Ha! Supporting AI!This post is, of course, meant to be read in the context of the preceding post about Idiocracy. It's obvious satire! Meant to give people a giggle in a doubly tense political climate. If I had a dollar for every humourless frown with a person attached who somehow failed to get this... I'd have at least a couple of bucks ; )

@Adoxography > There is no realistic way to field another D candidate at this pointI don't know enough about the arcane details of the US electoral system to know if this is true. But if it is;1) The US electoral system is not for purpose in a contemporary democracy2) Don't try to gaslight people. Just be honest(1/2)

The people who supported Biden's candidacy could be saying something like;'Yes, Joe is struggling to form sentences at times. Sorry to everyone who pointed this out in 2020 and since, when there was still time to replace him. We should have listened. But it's too late now, and he's still a better choice than the GoP candidate.'*Not*'Pay no attention to the obvious cognitive decline behind the blue curtain!'(2/2)@Adoxography

@strypey ...if you want to keep the possibility of having valid elections, Trump cannot win. This is literally a "by any means" moment in history. Both your fictive supporters can hold in their head both thoughts at the same time. Because they want another chance to elect someone they *do* truly want. Trump wins, that chance is gone for the foreseeable future. When I see otherwise caring and sensitive folks casting aspersions, I comment that doesn't help.

@Adoxography > Both your fictive supporters can hold in their head both thoughts at the same timeRight. So the gaslighting, as well as insulting our intelligence, is not necessary. See:https://mastodon.nzoss.nz/@strypey/112817590397367389> When I see otherwise caring and sensitive folks casting aspersionsPointing out facts is not "casting aspersions".
