What is a somewhat obscure music artist or band that has science fiction and or fantasy themes in a lot of their songs?I am STILL waiting for scifi hiphop. WuTang counts a little. But that was more martial arts b-movie stuff.I love a tune that sounds like it was about a scifi story that no one has written yet.

@futurebird parliament funkadelic felt like they did that: alt-history and a sort of vaguely consistent mythology about the mothership. Sometimes Janelle Monae's earlier work had a similar alt-history-futurism. I'm thinking of one of her videos where people were time traveling to fight fascism by bringing lost funk and soul back from the past.

@futurebird How about a mainstream band with obscure SF and fantasy songs? Queen's early work, especially their 2nd album Queen II, was heavy on fantasy elements:- My Fairy King- Ogre Battle- The Fairy Feller's Master-StrokeI'd also credit Brian May for SF influences, as he studied astrophysics before committing to the band. (Their predecessor band, Smile, had a song "Earth" about a space traveler pining for home.) He wrote '39 about time dilation! Also check his solo album for "Cyborg".

@futurebird Ayreon is prog metal, mostly unique stories told through an entire album. Star One is a bit heavier and each song is about a particular sci fi movie. There's also Starset, which is sci fi metal with electronic influences and some kind of visual online stuff apparently. On the fantasy side, I'd suggest Symphony X, Avantasia and maybe DragonForce though they're pretty well known I think. If you're into harsh vocals, Scar Symmetry's two most recent albums would count.
