does anyone have good recommendations on: the engineering history of the Gemini and Apollo programs? Ideally something that's got the depth but interestingness-of-writing that *The Making of the Atomic Bomb* has.

@NireBryce @nyrath I just finished this, which was about more than the computer systems. https://www.amazon.com/Digital-Apollo-Human-Machine-Spaceflight-ebook/dp/B08BSZNXFS

@NireBryce @nyrath Apollo is such a large program that I don’t think anyone has done a single book like you are describing. But there are a lot of tight focus books like “Stages to Saturn” mentioned elsewhere in this thread.

@NireBryce @nyrath Also look to NASA itself for books. You can find PDF copies of books like “On the Shoulders of Titans” available. https://ntrs.nasa.gov/citations/19780012208

@FredKiesche @NireBryce @nyrath The NASA History Office has also provided copies of the mission reports for early human missions. Here are the ones for Apollo: https://www.nasa.gov/history/alsj/alsj-mrs.html .These have plenty of depth on the engineering; but may not meet the "interestingness of writing" criterion.
