Thanks to all who helped with Windows/Arch issues I had ... but turns out it was my error. I can't believe this shit man ... I've actually mixed up drives because they're the same size, so now all of my data is erased and all.I will hopefully be able to at least recover my PSD files, if not all of the music and shit :blobnervous: :blobsad: :angwy:

@appuru I’m sorry that happened… before doing anything on the computer, try running something like photorec to if you want to try recovering your data. It can take awhile, but it’s pretty great data recovery tool. Also, it’s definitely always a good idea to schedule regular backups of your computer to an external drive, just to be safe. :blobheartcat:https://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/PhotoRec

@Nedrik I've tried .... i've no idea how to use that sort of program in Terminal.Everything else is fine, but data recovery is fucking confusing in command line. :blobcatsadreach:

@appuru @Nedrik Might be worth looking into Timeshift. It’s very similar to Windows restore tool. I have mine setup to do a snapshot every time I update anything, and it even gives me a pre-boot menu which allows me to select old snapshots before my system boots. Making it easy to recover from an unbootable system.

@disabled @Nedrik THe problem is that I have installed Arch over Windows, because I've mixed up same-size drives

@appuru @Nedrik Oh, I did something similar a little while back. I was reinstalling my OS cause I had some health issues and totally forgot my passphrase. ended up installing it onto my data drive instead of my boot drive. tons of super valuable data was just unrecoverable. I tried, one of the few times I regret not having an HDD. (those are easier to recover data from.)I hope none of the data that was lost was irreplacable.

@appuru It can be a big weird at first, but it’s more straightforward than a lot of CLI programs. Basically, you just need to run it in Terminal without any arguments (you can probably just drag the executable into Terminal to autofill the path). You navigate with the arrows and return/enter key.For the disk, choose your storage drive, source partition is probably HPFS - NTFS, FS type is Other, analysis space is whole.https://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/PhotoRec_Step_By_Step

@appuru For the destination folder, you’ll probably want to choose a folder on an external drive with at least as much space free as your internal drive’s capacity, to be safe.It can take a very long time to run, especially if your computer has a hard drive instead of an SSD. Once it finishes running, your files will probably be sorted into folders for each file type that was recovered, and will likely not have their original names, since that’s usually lost when a file is deleted.

@Nedrik I still have a little hope left though, because it's only at 1% done XD So far it seems like a better program than those paid ones tbh :blobheartcat: :blobwoah: :blobsneezing:

@appuru Oh yeah, you’ll see a LOT of thumbnails and cached images from various apps popping up in there. That’s definitely a good sign you’re seeing stuff though, I hope you’re able to get everything you need back! :blobheartcat:And yeah, it’s been around a long time, but has always been super reliable for me on various systems through the years. I’ve used a fair amount of paid ones too, but photorec is very straightforward and reliable.

@Nedrik The only downside I'd say it places everything in folders called "recup_dir.(number)" and there's like million of them lol If I get anything, I'll need ages to look through XD

@appuru Yeah, that’s the biggest downside to data recovery is that the filenames are almost always lost, and there are so many file types that no tool can identify them all, so you may see a lot of that. On the bright side, if you didn’t use apps that created uncommon files of unusual types, they’ll probably be identified! You’ll just have to preview/open each individual one to find out what they are… :isabelle_sweat:
