@Gatitasecsii It’s to warn someone what the content of the post is in case they don’t want to see it. A lot of people disable them though (like me) so they always show. It’s a courtesy for other users, basically.For Fediverse instances like this one, it’s probably best employed for use on posts with more extreme content, like violence, gore, death, etc.

@Gatitasecsii That’s… odd. I think your own posts may always be expanded (I could be wrong, I haven’t had the option turned off in years).It may vary due to mobile apps someone else is using (many have their own set of options), or it could just be a bug in Mastodon 4.2.0 that we recently upgraded to if you’re looking at it on the website. I saw the content warning on a post you made a bit ago on the app I use.

@Gatitasecsii Oooh, I think I may know the issue. Images also have another option when they’re added to a post called “Mark media as sensitive”. That may now need to be enabled for them to be hidden under a CW? I’ll have to try it out.You can also enable that option for all your pictures under Settings > Preferences > Other > “Always mark media as sensitive”, which is helpful for us staying federated with misskey.ion and some other instances.

@appuru I’m sorry that happened… before doing anything on the computer, try running something like photorec to if you want to try recovering your data. @appuru It can be a big weird at first, but it’s more straightforward than a lot of CLI programs. Basically, you just need to run it in Terminal without any arguments (you can probably just drag the executable into Terminal to autofill the path). @appuru For the destination folder, you’ll probably want to choose a folder on an external drive with at least as much space free as your internal drive’s capacity, to be safe.It can take a very long time to run, especially if your computer has a hard drive instead of an SSD. Once it finishes running, your files will probably be sorted into folders for each file type that was recovered, and will likely not have their original names, since that’s usually lost when a file is deleted.

@appuru Oh yeah, you’ll see a LOT of thumbnails and cached images from various apps popping up in there. That’s definitely a good sign you’re seeing stuff though, I hope you’re able to get everything you need back! :blobheartcat:And yeah, it’s been around a long time, but has always been super reliable for me on various systems through the years. I’ve used a fair amount of paid ones too, but photorec is very straightforward and reliable.

@appuru Yeah, that’s the biggest downside to data recovery is that the filenames are almost always lost, and there are so many file types that no tool can identify them all, so you may see a lot of that. On the bright side, if you didn’t use apps that created uncommon files of unusual types, they’ll probably be identified! You’ll just have to preview/open each individual one to find out what they are… :isabelle_sweat:

@satori It’s certainly great to hear you’re doing this sort of verification. I’m guessing forwarded reports from other instances aren’t accepted for this?The latter part is a bit worrying though, as anyone using shortcut keys, external controllers, and/or not rotating the canvas due to using a tablet are out as well as those using certain apps that don’t show such things, as you mentioned. I can’t imagine LLMs are at the point of making a believable drawing process video at this point.

@punishedmob He was a fascist and the horrible shit he did over his (thankfully) short time alive contributed to far more deaths and harm than the person who took him out.You and everyone here would be dead if the guy got his way more, especially the queer and non-white among us. @afairmaiden If you’re using a content manager (Like Wordpress, Drupal, etc.) to built it, those have built-in tools for handling comments and moderating them. Otherwise, if you’re building it from scratch in PHP, Python, or another scripting language, there are a lot of pre-built scripts for managing it.If you’re using something more static or pre-made without access to server-side scripting, you’ll have to rely on an external service for that, which can be complicated, rules-wise…
