       @Rennegade Is it the cultivar, or do you prefer to wait until they lighten/thicken? The kinds I've done are all that vertical-stem/short-node type - they stay fairly skinny and only go a bit yellow once seed is fiarly developed. Looks like these vine?

       @collatz we were away for a week for 4th of July... came back and they were all huge. The yellow side is the side that was laying on the ground. Our squash garden is down in our bog.. it self waters so they get massive impressively fast.

       @collatz @Rennegade i don't hate zucchini but i'm not a bgi deater of it, and the right number of plants for me would be like half of one, but i can't grow that many so id on't grow any, NOW CUCUMBERS, i can make tons of pickles from that so that's that.

       @givenup @Rennegade Yeah I went from four to two, missed a few seasons, and next season I'd expect to do one. Both getting better at growing and preferences in this house have never helped. Love my straight8 cucumbers too, but for pan-frying I'll always want some zucchini & eggplant w/ dill.

       @givenup @collatz they are so versatile. I just make a chocolate zucchini bread that tastes like chocolate cake. I can't even taste the zucchini which could be a good thing or a bad thing depending on your preference. It's delicious though and has less sugar then most cakes and is so moist.

       @givenup @Rennegade I've got virtually all of that 150lb-ish harvest from last season and amazingly most haven't gone bad, although they're all producing a couple slips even in the cool basement w/o any soil/moisture - I just have to grab a few of those starts and shove them in the ground to keep something available for next season's.

       @Rennegade @collatz i got pole beans climbing a piece of cattle fence i put up for them when they got tall, i also got a ton of bush beans that are green beans basicly, but they grow purple, and a big row of great northern beans planted that i'll absicly just let dry out on the vine and harvest for eatin' later, might get a few potatoes, and some more radishes and cabbages and carrots and beets i got romaine lettuce and butter head lettuce going tomatoes, and a canteloup vine that's doing well, i gave most all my stuff a sprinkling of pelletized 12-12-12 grass feed, that releases as it gets watered / rains.

       @mjdigspigs @collatz @givenup I planted some broccoli early in the spring... my first time growing broccoli. maybe not early enough though. 2 are growing but no broccoli yet. The leaves are getting eaten by something though.

       Something is eating all the leaves but, the one's on my deck. I've seen it all around town. It's an insect not a rodent.

       @Rennegade @mjdigspigs @givenup I always suspect/expect cabbage-whites. Their caterpillars blend in very well.

       @Rennegade @mjdigspigs @givenup They respond very well to bacillus thurenginensis and spinosad (bio/natural caterpillar controls).
