A discussion from Tumblr about my Brazilian Pride Flag Conflict re: VGAPride got reposted on reddit, and it's hilarious how different the reaction is. So many people there are like "why are you having this problem? MS-DOS? just design the flag in inkscape or g*mp! why would you want to design a pride flag for DOS?"It's real sad. They just don't understand why anyone would write software to display pride flags on DOS.

You can see the thread here:https://www.tumblr.com/foone/755662493071900672/But the tl;dr is that VGAPride (my DOS program for showing pride flags) has a very complicated Brazil flag, which was annoying to implement, but it's also wrong. It turns out it's wrong because wikipedia is wrong. And wikipedia has the wrong copyright on the wrong flag.

@foone I just want to say that idea behind the variation of the rainbow replacing "Ordem e Progresso" is amazing. Like one of the replies point out, "Ordem e Progresso" is kind of lame, lmao. I would love to see one with the rainbow in the middle but keeping the regular flag colors (keeping the stars might be another story, lol). As a Brazilian myself, the thread was an enjoyable read!

@foone Just to add, if you haven't seen it, this is one of my favorite variations of the flag. It was made by the Mangueira Samba School during carnival (I think it was 5 years ago). It says "Indians, Blacks & Paupers" (Literal translation would be Indians, Black people & poor people I believe.In Portuguese "Indians" isn't considered pejorative as in English I think, I really wish we would use something else like "Original people", etc.

@foone that reminds me that Wikipedia this is about a lot of things being public domain when there definitely entities who own said things in one or another level of intellectual property regulation.Once I had a very interesting debate with a Transport for London person when I desired a Security BSides London logo.And just recently I learned that the nginx logo is is owned as a image/text brand in Germany's brand registers. 🤐
