Bikeshedding exactly the wrong thing isn’t a prerequisite to being a programmer but fuck me you’d be forgiven for thinking it was seeing how some of you go on.

@aral I love that term. I love shouting out `BIKESHED`! really loud in management meetings.

@aral It's everywhere. In politics, the subdivisions with a party[*] have a tendency to point at each other and say, "You're making The Problem worse." They do this because the subdivisions have access to each other and will engage in mutual argument. Contrast this with the comparatively rare efforts to deal with the real cause of The Problem, which is usually the other party. They're way out of reach, so it is easier to fight amongst ourselves.[*] I only know about Dems, really.

@aral Had to look that one up <blushing> by the time a project has gone through whatever SDLC is in use and reaches the Developer a vast majority of the issues should have been ironed out. Oddly, such is seldom the case - frustrating as that is. However, the other side of that is the Developer sittng on a project for whatever reason and not making progress - they don't know how to solve whatever problem is blocking them, they are overloaded, or they shouldn't be on the project.

@aral sometimes the difference between bikeshedding and yak-shaving is only apparent in hindsight.
