The Pentagon’s Antivaccine Propaganda Endangered Public Health and Tarnished U.S. CredibilityAmid the pandemic, the Pentagon ran a conspiracy campaign to discredit vaccines–just so it could score points against China. @dvergano Libertarians really missed an opportunity with COVID.They could have run towards science and protested lockdowns that were arbitrary, while observing distancing and masking. They could have capitalized on all the predictable ways Big Government would Screw Things Up. They could've shown that people can stop the spread on our own.Instead they fell deep into conspiracy-theory traps laid out by Russia, Iran, USA(!) & China and are now divorced from reality.<trump>Sad!</trump>

@dragonsidedd @dvergano Libertarians did those things. Also, one of the most common complaints early on was the refusal to approve challenge trials to get vaccines sooner. Libertarians took a variety of paths. As is often the case. That said, those "divorced from reality" have roughly as-good of a track record, in retrospect, as most official (competing) narratives of the time in the US. Which isn't as much a compliment to crazies as it is a criticism of those who don't care about truth.

@dvergano I don't see any evidence, neither in SA nor in Reuters pieces, that this propaganda was at all effective.
