@dibi58> a deluge that meteorologists are calling a once-in-200-years event.> > It was the fourth such massive rainfall to smite southeastern Florida in as many years.that's like Germany's Jahrhundert Hochwasser, that's now happening every year, sometimes twice.

@meena @dibi58 I'm in Miami and tbh the news exaggerates it all. They'll show the future predicted flood maps and that the near shore areas will all be underwater but guess what? all those photos from these news articles? Not from anywhere near the shore. It drains quickly here (surprise!).I think a lot of people assume Miami has already done about everything it can to address this problem. That is not true. We don't even have all the modern pumps installed like they use in New Orleans and Amsterdam. (they're coming. 58 in total, but so far only 14 permanent pumps completed). We haven't even implemented the Army Corps of Engineers design to deal with storm surge yet (maybe starting in 2027?). It's being redesigned because people were upset of what it would do to the natural beauty of the area. And that's going to take time. It's clearly not THAT urgent yet.Still a long ways to go before we're out of options.https://www.wusf.org/weather/2024-05-12/plan-2-7-billion-dollars-protect-miami-dade-county-storm-surge-headed-congress-army-corp-engineershttps://www.saj.usace.army.mil/MiamiDadeBackBayCSRMFeasibilityStudy/
