@Kroc I'm determined to set up a Psion forum at some point. Something that can be archived by the Wayback Machine. Discord serves a purpose, but forums and wikis are 100% not it.

@thelastpsion So what should it be in your opinion?

@hackbyte I guess it depends on an admin's use case. I think Discord wikis and forums are fine if an admin wants their content to be restricted only to members of the server, e.g. for a secret project or behind a paywall. For me in the retrocomputing community, I want as many people to have access to the information we collect as possible. This means it can be crawled by a search engine and archived by the Wayback Machine, not inside a walled garden where the garden could disappear at any time.

@hackbyte Note that I do use Discord for my retrocomputing stuff, but more as an alternative to Slack or IRC. For getting people together and chatting, it works really well. We've had a few projects start in our Discord server. I just don't believe it's suitable for long-term storage of information.

@thelastpsion I'm a bit baffled about you saying "forums and wikis are 100% not it" ....Forums and Wikis work well, still. And with some few additional IRC channels, you not only have a good equivalent to a "discord server" but it is absolutely open and totally archive compatible.Yeah i see the convenience to have a chat integrated right into the forum ..... so .. why don't actually do that?Getting rid off "documentation by chatlog" is just a premium on top. ;)

@hackbyte I think we might have our wires crossed.I am definitely pro forums and wikis. I meant that I don't like the idea of forums and wikis that are built into Discord, a non-open platform.Sorry, I can see how that might not have been clear in my original post.
