@aral At least as cool as tech would be without tech bros. But this is tech, so there will be tech bros.In fact, anything that has (or, at one time had) any kind of actual merit always ends up attracting bros. It's a pattern:1. Nerds, Geeks, and Misfits find or create X.2. Ns, Gs, and Ms, like X, but it's not sports or cars, so no one else cares.3. NGMs develop and nurture X.4. X acquires broad appeal.5. Bros show up, shove NGMs aside, and take credit for X.6. X begins to suck...

@aral Not sure if it is a similar phenomenon but ever since I started using open source (1996), I've regularly come across an attitude of "the difficulty filters out the normal people".It's less prevalent now but instead I see something related -An ignorance (or stonewalling) of suggestions for better user-centric design - from visual to content design, from UX to accessibility.I guess the open source community is overflowing with technical talent but not so much human design talent.

@aral spaces *without* Fossbros tend to attract people. Including Fossbros. Those then usually continue being Fossbros.It takes unusually great moderation (or tiny projects) to manage Fossbros.
