"The fact that the EU interior ministers want to exempt police officers, soldiers, intelligence officers and even themselves from chat control scanning proves that they know exactly just how unreliable and dangerous the snooping algorithms are that they want to unleash on us citizens."https://t.co/52zLSfsqPU

@protonprivacy wondering what would Switzerland do if such a monster goes in... We're not in the UE, but we can expect "them" to put some pressure on Switzerland (like they usually do) to see us implementing those same things...What would Proton do if such a thing happens?

@protonprivacy The EU behaving like the SS...most people on the street don't even know about chat control, or that such a thing is being talked about, and that they're using CSAM to push it through, when it'll actually make investigations harder. Then again many things the EU decides many people only know about until it's all been decided.

@protonprivacy As I already wrote another day: We should decrypt and publish those who think they are exempted from #chatcontrol. That would offer them a completely new perspective to the problem. I'll start preparing something ...

@protonprivacy Well, that’s one way to maximise corruption and enable the systemwide abuse of power at everybody’s expense. The “child protection” rhetoric has absolutely nothing to do with “protecting children” and everything to do with power and control. Always has. In fact, it’s been like this for decades. Kids today have even fewer rights than I did twenty years ago.

@protonprivacy The same thing as it were with covid measures which become just yet another tool to abuse human rights in many countries while these authorities themselves while bureaucrats even did not pretend these protocols apply to them, and had parties and enjoyed normal life while everyone had been confined at their homes like in prisons.Anything that introduce state under "safety" sauce is just another step to a dictatorship. This is not specific to total #surveillance or #ChatControl

@protonprivacy reports of conversations, even (moreso) if they are false, taken out of context are dangerous in itself. These exempted parties also have a cynical disposition. So, reports that may not be justified, taken out of their (complicated) context, are processed by parties who's purpose is to look for reasons to blame.

@protonprivacy This is probably one of the worst disasters that can happen to EU.1. Chat scanning won't catch any criminals, they will just change the way they communicate.2. A lot of false positives will be generated which will be a burden on police and potentially a huge problem for the falsely accused.3. Authoritarian regimes WILL abuse the technology to clamp down on dissent.

@Natanox @Daemon The exact text of the latest proposal has not yet been released, but Proton would not be willing to comply with the previous drafts that we have seen. We will keep on engaging with all stakeholders to make sure that encryption and the fundamental right to privacy are protected.
