@heyokyay It’s the opposite for me. I remember thinking the day after turning nine, though not in these exact words, “fuсk, I still have a whole ‘nother lifetime to go before I can legally GTFO”.

@Radical_EgoCom The greatest irony of that ‘Victims of Communism’ memorial in Washington DC is all the homeless tents set up around it.

@futurebird Been there, done that. Once upon a time, our Celestial Empire ruled the known world, built fantastical monuments, and civilised countless barbarians with our expansive trade network and advanced technology. And the world paid us back by selling us poison, stealing our land, and perverting our creations to facilitate the destruction of countless lives.

@futurebird @angiebaby @MikeDunnAuthor What a sad state of affairs. In a better world than ours, people who exhibit such apathy and incuriosity about the world and encourage others to adopt their dangerous way of thinking would be involuntarily euthanised for the good of humanity. But, alas.

@rysiek What kind of tankies would support *either* side of the war?! Most of whom I would call tankies just oppose war, period. And those who aren’t tankies…well, no support for the imperialist proxy war.I *would* like for Russia to stop the senseless fighting altogether and leave Donbas, Donetsk, and Luhansk, and I do not believe this can be accomplished by throwing more weapons at Ukraine.

@rysiek The ‘liberal position’ of unconditionally supporting Ukraine past the point of reclaiming their territories and invading Russia back actually scares me more than the Russian invasion itself. Western media is scarily competent at whipping up the public into bloodthirsty frenzy, and they manage to do all this without the prompting of their governments.

@rysiek @enoch_exe_inc Don’t misrepresent me. I don’t directly oppose the current course of actions, but…it has not significantly changed the situation since a thousand days ago. It’s scary to see how many “liberals” are so totalitarian that simply expressing a desire not to *prolong* the war is met with petty insults, death threats, and attempts to silence all dissent.

@rysiek @enoch_exe_inc Twenty years ago, it was conservatives and the Iraq War. I’ve always assumed it was an inherent trait of conservatism to be a bloodthirsty warmonger. Now, it turns out liberals are no different.

@rysiek @enoch_exe_inc I don’t want to end the war on Russian terms either. But I also don’t want billions of dollars in weapons thrown willy-nilly into Ukraine with no way of knowing where they’ll end up or what kinds of militant groups may end up using them against us in the future. That’s what happened during the Soviet-Afghanistan War, and we got 9/11 and the whole War on Terror in return. There has to be a way to stop this without causing blowback. There has to be.

@NeonPurpleStar @enoch_exe_inc @rysiek Bernie Sanders and AOC are Social Democrats, a position I don’t agree with as much as I used to, but it’s one I’ll tolerate because it’s by far the most realistic “better option” the United States can become. That said, there aren’t very many of them. In fact, those two are the only ones that come to mind. Does this strike you as a bit of a problem when it comes to affecting change?

@emily Agreed. Array, list, stack, queue, vector, zipper, buffer—they’re all pretty funky names for subtly different linear data structures (i.e. lists). They don’t compare to how physicists name things, though. For instance, all the supersymmetric particles just have the letter s prefixed to it.

@lanodan @enoch_exe_inc @emily Oh yeah, sorting algorithms (amongst other algorithms) have funky names, too. Like heapsort. Also, what happens if we invent an even quicker sorting algorithm than quicksort? Call it “quickersort”?

@futurebird I dunno. Building a magnetic shield at the first Martian-Solar L1 Lagrangian point would resolve the issue of Mars not having enough of a magnetosphere due to its tiny iron core. It would also probably require towing a small silicaceous asteroid to that point, and then using the asteroid as a source of raw materials to build all the necessary components.

@ozzelot @copter_chief Or disappear them instead, leaving me with the entirety of their wealth. I could even fabricate papers saying that I am to be the sole benefactor of their wealth in the event of “unforeseen circumstances”.

@Nonilex @crk5 He survived, by the way. There’s a video of it. There he was, crossing the street as a column tanks were leaving the Square, and then he stopped. The tanks try to go around, twice, but each time, he dances in front of their way. Then, he climbs aboard and has a short conversation with the crew of the first tank. He climbs back down and is escorted away by bystanders.#ContextMatters

@cmconseils Yeah…ain’t nobody’s gonna understand why I spent a whole weekend implementing a Turing machine in #Desmos. Or the weekends that I’ve spent making Tetris in Desmos. Really, I don’t think I’ve used that graphing calculator for its intended purpose in years, and instead devote an unnatural amount of time to making it do weird things.
