Have you ever heard of Alice In Wonderland Syndrome? I hadn't until HTX sent me a listsicle that mentioned it. I have it--I had no idea that it was a thing/had a name. I've had it all my life & typically experience it when I have a fever--my head feels huge/body feels tiny, my mattress feels like concrete with really sharp edges, my linens feel like parchment paper, etc. My son, ADS, is the only other person I've ever known who has it.

ADS & I both have synesthesia--Mr. Boots thinks it's linked to that. I have no idea.

@BootsChantilly Wow, I didn’t know anyone else with it. My neurologist said that Lewis Carroll likely suffered from it. He diagnosed me with it when I explained my strange perceptions while I had a balance disorder caused by labyrinthitis. I had non-stop vertigo for years from 2014 to 2016. I would perceive things as being larger or smaller than they really were. It went away when I eventually recovered from the balance disorder a little over 2 years later.

@BootsChantilly There are many possible causes for Alice in Wonderland syndrome. There are also many possible causes of vertigo. Do you know the cause of your vertigo?

@BootsChantilly I had it when I was a young child, around kindergarten age. Usually when falling asleep. One way it would manifest, I would look at the wall in my bedroom, and it seemed like it was hundreds of feet tall and miles away. I found it very strange but not frightening. It went away by 1st grade and never came back.

@BootsChantilly Yeah, when I read about it I was surprised because I had also never heard of other people experiencing it.It was kind of like when I first read about misophonia—I’ve had a raging case of it my entire life, and it was a kind of relief to know that so many other people have it!

@BootsChantilly Hmmm, perhaps bring it up next time you see a doctor. The most common cause of vertigo is easily cured.https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/vertigo/symptoms-causes/syc-20370055

@BootsChantilly I had no idea this was a thing! This has been happening to me for years. I remember the first time was when I had a fever as a kid, but afterwards it kept happening randomly, once every few months. Sometimes when I'm about to sleep or I just woke up, Isome parts of my body feel out of proportion, blown up like a balloon (usually it's my limbs or my head, but the most unsettling is my neck). And I also have synesthesia, so you could be on to something...

@SapoconchaTradutora Remember the Pink Floyd song Comfortably Numb? When I was a child I had a feverMy hands felt just like two balloonsNow I've got that feeling once againI can't explain, you would not understandEver since I first heard it, I’ve related those lyrics to the weirdness that happens to me (with AIWS, it turns out). I wish I’d learned about AIWS a long, long time ago.

@BootsChantilly Oh, and I haven't had vertigo (yet), but both my mum and my older sister have it (so there might be some genetic connection there as well).

@SapoconchaTradutora There has to be a genetic connection.

@BootsChantilly You're right! I hadn't thought about those lyrics for a long time, but that's just how it feels! The thing with these symptoms is that they're so vague and difficult to describe, and they don't seem to pose a risk to one's health, so there's no real reason to describe them to a doctor unless they happen too often. It's the same with synesthesia: most people find out about it in adulthood and have no idea what to do with that knowledge.
