       I can save lives now.*,*** - it was a re-up so arguably I could save lives before** - In a very specific array of misadventures that may occur in normal day-to-day life and only in such a manner as to stabilise until actual qualified and competent help arrives.

       @Kels_316 pitch: an epipen with a three axis accelerometer, esp8266 and a speech synthesiser so if you try to use it backwards it actually says "lol dickhead"

       @geordie also shoutout to the special forces office (and accused war criminal) who after seeing my medic demonstrate an atropine injector on a piece of cardboard tried to do the same for his Squadron and put the needle through his thumb, out the other side through the nail and covered the front row in atropine.

       @geordie @Kels_316 it kind of bugs me as an RFS volunteer that as a nominated crew first-aider on a brigade that spends more time most years at MVAs than fires, that this is the threshold I'm competent to. I shouldn't be a paramedic, but I should be somewhat more skilled than DRSABCD.

       @liamvhogan @Kels_316 @trib @geordie CFS here, we have oxygen and the Advanced Resurrection course, but no permission to give painkillers. Mostly we're carrying smashed mountain bikers down from the bike park to where the ambos can park.

       @phenidone @liamvhogan @Kels_316 @geordie I really need to look at our training calendar to see what's there. I have priority for medium rigid and rural fire driving this year. Maybe next?Advanced Resurrection lets you bring them back when they're *really* dead? :awesome_rotate:

       @trib @phenidone @liamvhogan @geordie it's odd to me that we allow basic first aiders to use an epipen and AED, both things that can absolutely kill you, but not a penthrox whistle that is basically a harmless good. War on drugs nonsense.

       @trib @Kels_316 @phenidone @liamvhogan it’s a risk management thing. All of first aid is. AED and Epipen may be between the casualty traversing ground level and not, pentrox is pain management which medicine absolutely does not care about.

       @trib @Kels_316 @phenidone @liamvhogan a first aider has roughly a 15/20% chance of reviving someone with CPR and an AED. And maybe a 5% chance of electrocuting a bystander. First aid is developed in spreadsheets.

       @geordie @trib @phenidone @liamvhogan they have a 100% chance of electrocuting someone with the AED, if used correctly. As ambo wait times get longer, people with busted arms and legs are going to be wondering why the first aid kit in the factory office doesn't have any panadols in it.

       @Kels_316 @trib @phenidone @liamvhogan @geordie in the rfs (at least), they do not provide epipen's, it's byobut then each truck has an aed so that we can assist in remote areas if they are needed, and they get deployed with surprising regularityso what's the sense behind *not* carrying epipens? maybe it is the spreadsheet geordie suggested

       @warkolm @Kels_316 @trib @phenidone @geordie epipens are prescription medicine, it’s a legal barrier not a risk one

       @liamvhogan @warkolm @Kels_316 @trib @phenidone there’s one in my car first aid kit. You ask for them at a chemist, they look very concerned and say it’s prescription medicine and you can’t have one. You then go to Chemist Warehouse and ask for one and they give you one and you also get a pack of 64 toilet rolls and some eclipse mints.
