@foone Let me count the ways...(actually, seems like a relatively easy target on the face of it. Are you going soft?)

@foone it worked for me when I added the firmware to make RasPi 3 boot USB. Booted off WD's 3.14GB drive fine!

@puppygirlhornypost @mori I wonder if vibrating a hard drive lowers the read speed?I need to hook up a Hitachi to an old... I was gonna say something like "an old wd caviar" but I just remembered that Hitachi made hard drives too.So now I need to try using a Hitachi on a Hitachi

@foone Should do. I've been running my 4, and later 5, off an SSD in a USB enclosure. Although the latter just graduated to NVMe. Ought to be faster than an SD card? Although this is where you, specifically, bust out a Winchester drive or something bonkers!

@foone how hard could it be to hook up an Rpi to IDE? It has more than enough pins.

@foone I used a spinny disk a few times on a Pi Zero to compile some large programs. Worked well but felt so wrong.

@foone easy, Pi4 can boot from USB storage. I know this because I destroyed the MicroSD socket on one of my Pi4’s…

@foone Absolutely possible. I have a couple of the discontinued WD Labs PiDrives here, they work well, albeit slowly:https://magpi.raspberrypi.com/articles/western-digital-pidrive
