My highly technical #OpenSCAD program to make a #3Dprint cassette belt:// Belt length in mm when it's pulled flat and straight; half the circumference.half_circumference = 120;thickness = 1;$fa = 1;$fs = 0.5;belt_diameter = (half_circumference * 2 * 0.95) / PI;difference() { cylinder(thickness, d=belt_diameter, center=true); cylinder(thickness * 2, d=belt_diameter - thickness * 2, center=true);};#SepTandy #RadioShack #TRS80 #VintageComputing #RetroComputing

Spent *entire day* getting a belt printed. Forgot lousy Simplify3D deleted my saved TPU settings last Christmas when I was messing with dual extruders because IT DOESN'T SAVE YOUR SETTINGS TO A PRINTER PROFILE (why have profiles then?) and I had to trial and error getting TPU to print again.Anyways, I got a belt to #3Dprint and now the cassette recorder works again. (Mostly. I think I still need to tweak the TPU settings more.)#SepTandy #RadioShack #TRS80 #VintageComputing #RetroComputing

Today's project: typing in a program from Rainbow Magazine June 1984. I'm not entirely sure this program does what I'm interested in or not. No doubt I will get the whole thing typed in and debugged and be disappointed with it. Just like the old days. 😉 #SepTandy #RadioShack #TRS80 #VintageComputing #RetroComputing

This is extremely tedious typing this in. Why couldn't they have published it with Cauzin Softstrip barcodes so I could let the computer do the typing for me? #SepTandy #RadioShack #TRS80 #VintageComputing #RetroComputing

Why have I not yet setup that "crowdsourced OCR" web site that I dreamt about last time I needed to type in a listing. #SepTandy #RadioShack #TRS80 #VintageComputing #RetroComputing

Maybe I don't need to type! @NF6X pointed me to "Rainbow on Tape" and "Rainbow on Disk". I see the colorcomputerarchive.com has both! Guess I need to hookup my #FujiNet and see if the disk already has the program!https://colorcomputerarchive.com/repo/Disks/Magazines/#SepTandy #RadioShack #TRS80 #VintageComputing #RetroComputing

Ok, got #FujiNet going, put all of the Rainbow on Tape/Rainbow on Disk on my TNFS server and found the right "tape". The "menu" lists the article I'm looking for. #SepTandy #RadioShack #TRS80 #VintageComputing #RetroComputing

Unfortunately, it seems the conversion from tape to disk that somebody did has mangled the programs. I may be typing in after all.The listing for the program I wanted doesn't run and shows BASIC statements that have to do with graphics. Those weren't in the listing in the magazine.#SepTandy #RadioShack #TRS80 #VintageComputing #RetroComputing

Managed to get it typed in! Just kidding, I did a lot more searching and found another disk image that already had it. #SepTandy #RadioShack #TRS80 #VintageComputing #RetroComputing

And at last, some music! That only took all day to enter. When playing the samples that came with it, it sounded a lot like an electric organ so I had to put in something recognizable that used an organ. #SepTandy #RadioShack #TRS80 #VintageComputing #RetroComputing

I know it’s been a while since my last update. Well, here’s where things are now. Using the #FujiNet I can run my program and have it listen on a socket. Then I use an #OpenSoundControl #OSC app on my iPad to act like a piano keyboard and send it messages. No sound yet, but I’m getting messages! #SepTandy #RadioShack #TRS80 #VintageComputing #RetroComputing

Today's challenge is to get some kind of sound working. I've been searching since yesterday trying to figure out how to play sound from assembly. I thought I'd be able to find a document that tells me the entry points into the BASIC routines for SOUND or PLAY, but so far nothing. Been digging through old magazine articles and a few books I found online. It seems like nobody cared about anything except BASIC. #SepTandy #RadioShack #TRS80 #VintageComputing #RetroComputing

At last, I can see when the CD pin goes high! I get 0xB4 when the CD pin goes high, the 0x34 is after I clear the flag. I can't read the state of the pin directly, only that it transitioned from low to high. Or configure to flag high to low. I suppose in theory I could flip the edge event when I clear it and track it that way, but meh.The lack of understandable documentation for the #CoCo drives me crazy!#FujiNet #SepTandy #RadioShack #TRS80 #VintageComputing #RetroComputing

I did it! I did it! I managed to make the note last as long as you hold down the key! This was NOT easy. *Everything* is controlled by the two PIAs and they are most definitely PIAs! 😉 The documentation I can find is very poor and it took a lot of trial and error. I’m not sure there’s anything I can do about the clicking because sound and serial go through the same PIA! Have to abruptly shut off sound to use serial. #CoCo #FujiNet #SepTandy #RadioShack #TRS80 #VintageComputing #RetroComputing
