The gym is a pretty braindead way of working out. It's basically a simulation of manual labour, like digging a hole in the ground. Simple enough that any idiot can do it. Even with a gym buddy, I don't find it very stimulating. You can't really talk much because you're always counting. Gyms are a business model. "You need expensive equipment to exercise and you can rent it from us."

Speaking of gyms being boring: Lack of stimulation is one reason I quit my programming job. It was just too boring. The lives of most adults are boring. How do they live like that without getting depressed?

@thj Great description. I ended up buying some basic weights so I can exercise at home.Which the initial cost was there, it paid for itself in 4 months gym fees.Started running on the spot for cardio. Maybe that's a bad idea but it must be better than nothing.

@mxtthxw I bought a pair once, that got used a few times, and then never again.

@thj neurotypical people often don't require too much stimulation. sitting down to watch football, reading the news or something similar seems to be enough in most cases.

@sk313t0n I suspect the world would look very different if everyone was like that. Why bother with anything interesting when the mundane is sufficient?

@sk313t0n Everyone teaches you to do like 3x10 or 4x12. I wonder if it's just meant to give your head something to do.

@thj probably very productive, but not very advanced. look at ants for example. every ant has their job, and they do it efficiently and quickly, building gigantic structures and defending it. but they are ants so they aren't too advanced with what they build.

@thj everyone has their theory about "optimal" training, but the reality is that do whatever you feel you need. the numbers could just be something to give you a pointer about roughly how much to do. who knows.

@thj I go through phases. Right now I’ve had a good couple of weeks… after leaving them untouched for a couple of months.
