And in other good news, look at what just has just crossed my path.A convenient host for my LS120 drive! Just need to source a PCI SATA card, or just switch it to CF. I'm thinking Debian or something else lightweight that I can SSH into, or connect to via serial.#retrocomputing

@thelastpsion it’s always a tiny bit jarring when I come across late 90s to early 2000s IBM kit because it featured heavily in the beginnings of my IT career. I put literally thousands of those on corporate desks back in the day.

@jamesholden I did the same thing around 2005/2006 for an insurance company, with these exact models (S50). I recognised it instantly, and then remembered a room full of machines being Ghostcasted!

@thelastpsion A bit later than me. We deployed at lot of 300 GL but we had a 4 floor call centre full of PC 330, the ones with the sliding door. I built a boot floppy to auto detect the hardware and pull a Ghost image. That way, the hardware support guys could try that, and if it didn’t fix the problem, they could swap the machine out.

@Kroc Just tried this out. It's got a P4 3.0 GHz HT, 89W TDP. Box pulls 100-110W at boot, 75-135W while loading an OS, settles down to ~70W at idle once Win2k (on the HDD already) has booted. Doesn't seem to be any way to underclock in the BIOS.Alternatively, I have a Via Eden 1 GHz board with 5W TDP that pulls 20W at boot. It has IDE and SATA. Just needs a case.Either way, I could do with a low-profile PCI USB3 card. But they're not easy to find, and certainly not for a reasonable price.
