There's apparently a new proposal to track and report acute respiratory infections in hospitals weekly regardless of public health emergency status. Please click through and comment affirmatively because we desperately need it. Heads up that they've put a captcha in place because of "aggressive automated scraping".These federal register things are a bit of a pain in the ass, so I’ll thread the entire process below.https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2024/05/02/2024-07567/medicare-and-medicaid-programs-and-the-childrens-health-insurance-program-hospital-inpatient

Not sure if that "agressive automated scraping" is due to companies trying to build their shitty so-called AI or ppl scraping the sites because the government has been pulling down data over the last couple years. Either way, it's the governments damn fault that they have to have a captcha now.

Like I said, you hae to do a captcha. I hate them too but at least it's one that has both a visual and audio option, though I know there are people it will still be inaccessable to.Anyway, do the captcha and then you'll probably have to close the page and go back to the link to get directly back to the form. I did at least.

It's not readily apparent by skimming the headers that this has anything to do with tracking respiratory illness, but it's in there. I'll quote the relevant section. It's in the next post in this thread.

Part 1 of the relevant section:"In section X.F. of the preamble of this proposed rule, we are proposing to update the hospital and CAH infection prevention and control and antibiotic stewardship programs conditions of participation (CoPs) to extend a limited subset of the current COVID-19 and influenza data reporting requirements.."

Relevant section part 2:" These proposed reporting requirements ensure that hospitals and CAHs have appropriate insight related to evolving infection control needs. Specifically, CMS is proposing to replace the COVID-19 and Seasonal Influenza reporting standards for hospitals and CAHs with a new standard addressing acute respiratory illnesses to require that, beginning on October 1, 2024, hospitals and CAHs would have to electronically report information about COVID-19, influenza, and RSV..."

"I support the updated reporting requirements for acute respiratory illness. Such an update is desperately needed so that immune compromised and other chronically ill people are able to assess the risks related to possibly contracting covid in healthcare settings and can plan appropriately to protect themselves. Such a change would also be benefitial to anyone else who works in a field that uses tracking data on acute respiratory illness."
