I oppose these changes to the way disability is counted by the US Census Bureau. Disability is already underestimated in the US and programs for disabled people are already underfunded as a result.(comment continued in next toot) ...

These changes would result in an almost 50% reduction in the federal recognition of disability in the US and even less federal funding for necessary programs for disabled people. I think this is a especially irresponsible change to make given that 2 million more people are known to be disabled in the US as a result of covid.(comment continued in next toot) ...

Furthermore, as research into identifying and treating long covid is still in its early stages there are likely many more people in the US struggling with new disabilities than are currently recognized. I urge the Census Bureau to maintain the current definition of disability rather than making the proposed changes that will ultimately harm disabled people in the US.

There's apparently a new proposal to track and report acute respiratory infections in hospitals weekly regardless of public health emergency status. Please click through and comment affirmatively because we desperately need it. Heads up that they've put a captcha in place because of "aggressive automated scraping".These federal register things are a bit of a pain in the ass, so I’ll thread the entire process below.https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2024/05/02/2024-07567/medicare-and-medicaid-programs-and-the-childrens-health-insurance-program-hospital-inpatient

Not sure if that "agressive automated scraping" is due to companies trying to build their shitty so-called AI or ppl scraping the sites because the government has been pulling down data over the last couple years. Either way, it's the governments damn fault that they have to have a captcha now.

Like I said, you hae to do a captcha. I hate them too but at least it's one that has both a visual and audio option, though I know there are people it will still be inaccessable to.Anyway, do the captcha and then you'll probably have to close the page and go back to the link to get directly back to the form. I did at least.

It's not readily apparent by skimming the headers that this has anything to do with tracking respiratory illness, but it's in there. I'll quote the relevant section. It's in the next post in this thread.

Part 1 of the relevant section:"In section X.F. of the preamble of this proposed rule, we are proposing to update the hospital and CAH infection prevention and control and antibiotic stewardship programs conditions of participation (CoPs) to extend a limited subset of the current COVID-19 and influenza data reporting requirements.."

Relevant section part 2:" These proposed reporting requirements ensure that hospitals and CAHs have appropriate insight related to evolving infection control needs. Specifically, CMS is proposing to replace the COVID-19 and Seasonal Influenza reporting standards for hospitals and CAHs with a new standard addressing acute respiratory illnesses to require that, beginning on October 1, 2024, hospitals and CAHs would have to electronically report information about COVID-19, influenza, and RSV..."

"I support the updated reporting requirements for acute respiratory illness. Such an update is desperately needed so that immune compromised and other chronically ill people are able to assess the risks related to possibly contracting covid in healthcare settings and can plan appropriately to protect themselves. Such a change would also be benefitial to anyone else who works in a field that uses tracking data on acute respiratory illness."

@cy Agreed that corporations have no business deciding who gets freedom of movement. That said, any assertion that assisted suicide is merciful in the context of a nation state that doesn't have the decency to give disabled people access to the healthcare, accessible living spaces, and other resources they need to live is categorically ableist horseshit, and you should take some time to think very hard about your assumptions before replying to me again.

Friendly reminder. I know people like to put emojis of stuff they like or are interested in their display name, but when you’ve got more than 2 or 3 of them, it makes reading your posts with a screen reader really tedious because the screen reader also reads out the coded descriptions of all those emojis. It makes it take a while for your screen name to be read out even before getting to the text of your post. It makes reading your threads unendurable, no matter how important the content is.

So, heads up for anybody else in #Illinois and is on #Medicaid. I found out today that #Walgreens is no longer enrolled in the IL Medicaid pharmacy plan. I did not receive any notification of this from either Walgreens or Medicaid. So you might want to call member services for whatever insurance company you have through Medicaid and talk to somebody in the pharmacy department to get a list of pharmacies near you that are still in network. Please boost for reach.MOre in the following post,
