So in total our trip was about 320KM across the country and we only came cross 2 US-style trucks!They immediately stand out since they are just massive, loud and look like rolling crapWe laughed at them like many people do here :bloblaugh: One had to have super low self-esteem to drive such a "look at my balls" truck here in the NetherlandsHappy I'm not in the US where this is "normal" :nkoFacepalm2:

@stux all I want is a reasonably sized pickup truck with an engine that doesn't eat 7 dinosaurs per mile. I don't know that they exist for sale in the US anymore. It's funny as well, there are a lot of pickup trucks where I live and the "big" trucks from the late 1980s and early 1990s are smaller than the "standard" trucks you can buy today.

@stux regarding weight/taxes - That's why I hope the new electric "trucks" get taxed appropriately here int he US. They weigh SO much and will put a lot of stress on the roads. #TaxTheTeslas please.

@stux One of those huge trucks has a purpose (hauling big/heavy things and towing big heavy things), however so many more people buy them than need them because they're compensating for something.So many of them get produced in the US because the emissions standards are more lenient for heavier vehicles than lighter ones

@stux Money is IMHO the wrong way to manage this. It should be something personal, so it doesn't matter how much money you have; something that levels the playing field between rich and poor. For example, hours of community service to be performed on person by the owner of the vehicle. For corporate vehicles, one of the company directors must be nominated.If it's just money, the disincentive is effectively nonexistent for corporates or the wealthy.

@stux Here in the US, not only do lots of people like to roll around in big stupid trucks, but the auto makers are actually incentivized to make bigger vehicles. Fuel economy standards that the government imposes upon them do not apply when the vehicles are over a certain size or weight (likely thanks to the big petrochemical lobbyists). So less efficiency + public appetite for wankpanzers = higher profit for auto makers and oil companies. Blech.
