A project I wasn't aware of -- a native seed storage capsule in the sidewalk near University of Washington Stores and Surplus in Seattle. edit to add artist web link: https://www.mbvkstudio.com/ravenna-creek-project

@jmeowmeow How does this work?Is it open to the public (like for seed exchange)?Or is it a vault for the zombie apocalypse?I mean, seeds require good conditions (temp, humidity...) to remain viable after long-term storage...

@earthworm No idea, all I know is what's in the picture and a guess that the sidewalk indigenous seed capsules are part of a project connected with the University of Washington. Whether closer to art or biology or public advocacy, I don't know.

@earthworm A Google Lens search reveals that the seed capsules are part of The Ravenna Creek Project, so: public location specific art. https://www.mbvkstudio.com/ravenna-creek-project

@earthworm Specific text: "15 plaques mark the locations of glass capsules buried beneath the sidewalk. Each capsule contains seeds of a plant found on the site before the city was built. The capsules are designed to break and scatter the seeds during any future construction projects."

@earthworm Thanks for asking, I only saw one seed plaque and a couple of inset metal letters (part of "RAVENNA CREEK") so I had to look it up to get the story and the big picture about a mostly buried local watercourse.

@jmeowmeow Thanks for looking it up 😊"The capsules are designed to break and scatter the seeds during any future construction projects" is actually pretty badass 🌱
