It ended up being confrontational and rude, and it didn't get across the point I had intended to convey.        @simon I have no idea if my compromise works, but I'll accept an invitation to talk about 'AI in libraries' then say '(for now) AI is just fancy autocorrect / statistics made sexy / machine learning' in the first minute of my talk. I gave up being more precise because nobody knew they actually wanted to learn about ML until they knew what it was, while everyone thinks they should know something about AI.

       @mia That's my approach too - I think one of the main goals of talking about AI to most audiences is to demystify it as much as possible, which starts with detaching it from the sci-fi version

       @simon AI has long been an ill-defined term.  Lots of things came from AI research and aren't considered such today. Instead of fighting or defending the term itself, focus on separating hype from facts, and keep harm out of the way of vulnerable people.  That alone is extremely hard work
