@kevets It verifies that the mastodon account controller also has control over the website. If that "does anything" depends on the context. What is the desired effect?

@harvhat there must be some reason to do it. It shows ownership of a website as a form of verification. I was wondering if it did a green check or something for those who use it.

@kevets The reason isn't very compelling if you don't know what it is! If you want people to be sure that your account and that website are run by you, then you might need it. But if you don't know the reasons you probably don't need it until you do.

@kevets Mastodon doesn't have the verification system with check-marks and such. People just put blue checks in their profiles to be funny or look cool, anyone can do it. It is possible you will need to do this for a third party service that wants to know you and the website are the same. Or perhaps you just want people perusing your profile to know and be confident that this is so. For business reasons perhaps.
