       @neil I’d argue that the frequent conflation of copyright infringement with theft is the result of ca. 25 years of rightsholder propaganda, which has been doing exactly that. You wouldn’t download a car, right?

       @neil Well at least one thing for copyleft is that we can not only throw away the stealing/theft part due to libre redistribution, but maybe also the economic-damage part since there's no intention to have a business monopoly.At least for LLMs I'd more go with how they're massively allowing counterfeit (misattribution / falsified) and plagiarism (lack of attribution).

       @neil it feels like a distinct and separate loss of control to me. With other models where your data is the product, it's a bit more visible in terms of how it's used and at least conceptually (if not in practice) you can see that you could gain some individual control. With LLMs, you don't know where your data is, somehow. It's all part of an amorphous blob and if you want your data removed, you're somehow painted as being unreasonable because the design of the system doesn't allow for that.
