As a blind Mastodonian who is made happy by alt text every day, I'd like to request anyone who feels inclined or able, to post and describe insects. I've really enjoyed the occasional alt text describing flying and crawling things.

@ChristineMalec @ChristineMalecHere are my posts with images. It is almost entirely insects and all of them should have alt text. If you have suggestions for making my alt better, let me know. https://sauropods.win/@twizzt

@twizzt Wow!!! Thank you! I've never had enough vision to see insects so this is all really exotic to me: so many colours, shapes, unfamiliar body parts. I'll never know, but I wonder if I'd find them fascinating or distasteful to look at.

@ChristineMalec I've shared photos at a few events and I would say that there is the occasional look of revulsion which is quickly replaced with intrigue. I describe most things as cute to be openly manipulative. For reactions, I've found words leading up to the pictures to be as important as the picture itself. If I say "Now we'll see a cute fluffy fuzzball" The response is So cute. If I introduce the same with "Next a vicious predator with massive fangs." The reaction will be different.

@twizzt I wonder what would happen if you introduced them with something like, "and now some photos from the Andromeda Galaxy"?

@ChristineMalec That would take a real specific group, but it just might work.I don't collect anymore so I don't really show photos of parasitoids as they are so difficult for me to photograph in the field, but their looks and life histories really do seem quite alien. Maybe I'll have to post some old parasitoid photos here.
