Google Taps Asimov's Three Laws of Robotics for Real Robot Safety. The company is using the rules to develop a 'Robot Constitution' to prevent a new machine system from potentially harming humans. https://www.pcmag.com/news/google-taps-asimovs-three-laws-of-robotics-for-real-robot-safetyI recall that going well in the stories.(Seriously, though, those stories are mandatory reading if you're in the field. Asimov was a hacker. "Here's a rule. What happens if we deliberately misinterpret it?”)

@tek It's such a meaningless thing to try to codify unless the "robot" is at least near "generally intelligent" vs the current state of "does the same task repeatedly". Current robots out in the world are about as intelligent as the high voltage cables that bring power to our homes.Fortunately, it also basically throws out that only neural networks are part of the decision making.

@edd Yep, yep. And it doesn't — can't — absolve humans from the responsibility of their creations. You build a welder bot that cooks a person? It's on you, not the bot.

@naf @edd That seems likely. Oh, our self-driving cars are targeting pedestrians? Blame them, not me!

@tek @naf @edd or blame the other humans driving. see also Cruise straight up lying to CA regulators but also trying to distract from responsibility because the person walking got hit by a regular person driven vehicle first … never mind that their robot car then behaved in ways that humans don’t typically. (if you saw the person driving next to you hit someone & then the person was on their hood for a block, you’d stop! or give lots of space! not what their robot did though 🤔)
