I finished rendering "The Great Taking" by David Webb as an audiobook.https://youtu.be/b4-IC2rQ-gEIt outlines how finance laws have changed in the last couple decades to allow the seizure of your assets, stocks, mortgaged property, etc., as collateral in the event of financial collapse.

@parker Thanks for making this I've heard people referencing this topic but not the source. I assume you've listened/read it in the process of producing this. How bad is the situation really?

@HLC Here's a nice thread on it. The gist being that assets held through a bank, broker, are held by intermediaries who use it for their various shenanigans. You don't have a direct claim to those assets, only a share in the total assets minus liabilities. But the intermediary's creditors have first dibs to everything, so if they were to go under (which doesn't even require the big banks going under) you'd end up with nothing.https://boards.4chan.org/biz/thread/57001286

@moth He references that, and the great depression also, where after the bank closures the fed decided which banks would get to reopen, effectively selective wealth confiscation.

@parker @HLC Good news is you can take direct ownership of the stocks at least, then they can't do things like "borrow" them to cover shorts. I wonder if balances held by credit unions can be confiscated by creditors as well?

@af2 @HLC Yeah in Canada I think I can set up a computershare account for direct registration and have my broker transfer everything over.

unconstitutional, but then again, Lincoln shredded the constitution in 1862 or so. political power and brute force also play a role here

@parker @HLC All the farmers around here, even the ones that have all their land paid off use their land and machinery lumped together as collateral for their operating expenses. Basically any farmer that uses a bank at all, which is probably 99% of them. So if the banks all vaporize the holding companies can grab 99% of the land in the US.

@parker @CZB Eesh that that does sound bad. I had never heard of computershare before but it sounds like that route would be the only solution. You'd have to get everything into an account that is actually in your control rather than in your name.

@HLC @parker I'm considering pulling all my puts on the market right now and just withdrawing all the cash. If the market really crashes like I'm betting on there is a chance that with my luck I'll lose the money anyway if the brokerage goes broke in the process. Would be better off holding the paper cash money thru this pop maybe.

@HLC @parker Every single stonk youtuber is talking about how the government is fudging the employment numbers by about 50% right now by fluffing with government jobs and part time jobs while the full time jobs just dropped out of the floor.

@meowski @HLC @parker I'm thinking maybe more silver. Have a 56k loan I should get paid off first over the next 2 months that is using my parent's borrowability. Unless they decide not to try to get some of their assets off of their operating loan's balance sheet. If they keep it all lumped together on there, I may as well buy more silver instead, because they gonna lose everything. Might max out all my credit cards again since they don't use collateral over me with them and then pay them back off if the stonk market turns around this summer. Would rather have a couple monster boxes of silver and maxxed out credit cards than just be sitting neutral if the housing/land/commodity/stonk/crypto bubbles all pop simultaneously.

@meowski @HLC @parker I think gold is a bit over priced compared to gold, I like the idea that you can buy a nice suit for an ounce of gold historically. Right now you can buy a couple nice suits with an ounce of gold, so it is a bit high. Silver on the other hand with the 1:25 ratio to gold it should have according to some people should be worth close to $80 an ounce. But realistically if gold was back at $800 which is a nice suit price the current price of silver is fair. Only downside is higher premiums ratio and difficulty to transport.

@CZB @meowski @parker I like PMs but I bought a lot 8 years ago and the market is so much tighter for physical than it used to be. I've been investing in lead instead if you know what I mean. Just got some more the other day.

@CZB @meowski @HLC Eh, in my mind if you're gonna go PMs just go with gold. Silver has bled against inflation for decades, and isn't required to enhance the divisibility of gold since we have computers. We'd have to un-invent electricity for it to get remonetized.
