Of course, I don't really have 30 minutes, so I did my thing and then rewound when he said was saying something interesting.Overall though, suggestions are pretty thin.I remember someone in the U.S. (Gen. Milley perhaps) absolutely racked on the coals in Fedi/TwiX for saying that Ukraine needs to do what Germans did in 1944. But that's the only choice to prevent a full surrender in 2025. The video literally suggests 1944: assume a defensive posture, trade ground for advantage, save men, wait for Putin to burn out. Oh, and make fewer mistakes.Remember the "Ukraine does need to free all territory to win over Putin" zinger? Same thing: it's the only path to victory. Entente won over Germans in 1918 before their territory was freed.#ukraine #war

@Moon @union @zaitcev Putin would want a US-aligned Ukraine to be crippled and neutralized as a potential future threat, instead becoming a money pit for the West. He's nostalgic for the Soviet Union, so ideally he'd like to annex all of Ukraine, which he doesn't view as a legitimate state, but that's not his win condition.

@Moon Short answer: he wasn't trying to take anything but he has no choice but to take now.Long answer: the overarching objective was and is to maintain security and sovereignty of Russia. Ukrane was supposed to be an new independent and neutral state, which mostly falls into Russian sphere of influence: provides warplanes, jet engines, and other key ingredients, allows Russian military presence in Sebastopol and Tiraspol, runs export pipelines etc. In Putin's pre-2007 view, this was a mutually beneficial model that allows everyone (EU, New Europe, Russia) to prosper in peace.The globohomo's plan was completely different. They sought a continuing expansion, including either taking over Russia democratically, and making it a satellite, or encroaching, partitioning, and otherwise winning and dominating.As these stratagems were advancing, they saw Putin's posture change in response. Even the 2014 Maidan was seen as just pendulum swinging, as it was in Ukraine since 1990: sometimes their government looked east, sometimes west. But it was different this time. The post-coup Kiev, drunk with power, tried to eject Russia from Sebastopol. In response, Putin annexed Crimea. Once ethnic Russians in Kharkov, Odessa, and Donetsk saw Crimea, they started to clamor for autonomy. Kiev initiated a brutal crackdown that would make Serbs blush. Ethnic Russians responded with arms, and a full-on civil war began. As they started losing, Russia provided them support and then we had Minsk accords. And so on and so forth.Nowhere in this narrative Putin "wants" parts of Ukraine, or Ukraine as a whole. But his naivety about the "international order" and trying to avoid the full-on war at all costs is what ended in a full-on war.
