Tried out mu4e and found it more comfortable than neomutt I've been using for years. Being a Vimer, I'm starting to realize that Emacs really rocks.#emacs #mailclients

@VikingKong impressed you can be so open minded and make a switch, temporary or not, after so many years in the vim camp. Welcome thou shall be!

@skybert @VikingKong Yah, emacs is great. I can't get by without evil, but it's also quite great.

@nickanderson @VikingKong I'm fairly fluent in vim, but I'm far away from a power user. Therefore, I'd be curious to know how good evil is for hardcover vim users coming over to Emacs? Is it "just as good as vim" editing/navigation wise, or is it like Emacs mode in IntelliJ IDEA, "much better than the defaults, but still miles away from the real thing"?#emacs #vim

@skybert @nickanderson @VikingKong it's exactly the real thing afaik, all your bindings should be there (macros and registers and : for commands as well) and emacs generally has all the capabilities of vim so it's 'just' a translation layer. I especially like composing Emacs commands with vim motions.

@skybert @nickanderson @VikingKong just out of curiosity. Why do you want to change if you „copy vim over“? Which advantages does #emacs have over #vim ? This is a serious meant question!

@pfitz @skybert @nickanderson @VikingKong IMHO, #Emacs is able to provide really everything (except vimscript) that #vim has and so much more. Whereas vim can't provide the majority of stuff that Emacs has. What Emacs-only functionality do you need? That's depending on your personal set of requirements. None could answer that without asking about your requirements.Just start using Emacs and do use vim for "editing only" in parallel. Like I'm doing since decades. So you get the best of both.

@skybert @VikingKong I used to use both #vi (not vim) and #Emacs in parallel for decades. At some point, I did not even confuse the entirely different keybindings anymore 🙂A few years ago, I migrated from #mutt to #mu4e, from #xfce to #exwm, and from #tmux to #tramp, however. I'm getting old.
