I was an employer, you already need to get an I9 from every employee with 2 forms of ID and proof of eligibility to work, ie. drivers license and Social Security card or green card. That is already law and has been for decades. The E-verify is supposed to be an online system to check the documents and eligibleity, kind of like instant handgun checks. However it is not an easy system to enroll in ( at least it wasn't a few years back), and since it isn't required, not many do it.

@Wy7usa Absolutely correct.just photocopy and put on file. It might even be against the law to question them. Not sure about that but in RI I wouldn't be surprised at all.

@Wy7usa absolutely. That's one reason I never went through the hassle of figuring out E-verify. JCD would be surprised, but I think it's SCAM!! 8)
