       I just learned that @beuc, the umbrella organisation of the European consumer protection organisations, left Mastodon for Bluesky last November. This move is frankly irritating and disappointing.

       I know they did not have the biggest account here and heck I didn't even follow them (neither am I on BS though) but my follow is irrelevant anyway). But if an organisation with a mission like @beuc doesn't realise the importance of a non-profit decentralised social network I don't know what they are doing.

       "reach an audience"?"limited resources"?... jeez folks. It's literally copy+paste, you could even mark the account here as a bot and state that you are only crossposting. There is NO reason to not keep the account here as a backup and/or skeleton. I mean, I am managing social media on Mastodon and BS for a rather active NGO myself. In my spare time. It's very much doable. To just leave Masto for BS on the other hand ... is just sending a very contradictory message.

       @malteengeler @beuc@eupolicy.sociallAs soon as I see an account, even for an organization or individual that I like, peddle other sites or become inactive, I unfollow.Sure, it can be argued that having a higher follower count on #Mastodon even after leaving shows the reach they *could* have if they posted on there, but for me personally, I'd rather show those that choose to remain here that names mean nothing and quality of content is the key to reach. Those that use this as a stepping stone to another platform have already made up their minds.That's also why it's so important to follow and interact with government, nonprofit, and expert accounts to not only show your appreciation for the high-quality content but to show that algorithms and profit motivations aren't necessary or constructive for a rewarding online social experience.
