I'm going to get personal for a second here:My husband had surgery this morning, and I am just so damn grateful he's alive. It wasn't anything extreme, but it was under full anesthesia, and there are few feelings that hit me harder than seeing someone I love being wheeled away into surgery looking completely vulnerable.I'm wiped out and signing off for the night, but I hope I passed some of my relief-joy on to all of you.

@grammargirl been there, similar conditions, and I was inconsolable for a while. Then she was back and it was over. Thanks for sharing and making us all feel less weird.

@grammargirl I had a similar experience last year, with the added flavor of the surgery taking a couple hours longer than they expected it to. I can still feel the stress from waiting and the relief when I got the call that he did well. Glad your story also had a happy ending.

@grammargirl Take care. I once had to take my fellow to the ER after midnight, he was in surgery the next day, the operation took longer than expected, and no part of that was easy.

@grammargirl we hear you; we who have been in this situation.The feeling is real.I usually turn into a machine right up until they're wheeled off, or I get home if they're staying in hospital, and then I just emotionally crash.

@grammargirl I hope that he makes a complete recovery. We go along most days without realizing how fragile life is, and the days we are reminded are horrible. We forget, because we couldn't go on all raw like that.

@grammargirl I’m glad he’s OK. GA is scary even when the procedure is minor. When my daughter had it recently, I didn’t admit to myself how afraid I was until she woke up (then I fell apart).

The first time I had to send him in a few years ago, I fell apart as they were wheeling him away. The poor nurses! And I felt so sorry for the people in the waiting room. I'm sure they thought someone had just died. At least I able to hold it together at the hospital this time.

@zkarj Thanks! I was at least proud of myself for holding it together at the hospital. I haven't always been able to in the past. I had a family member go with me last time, but I had to do it alone yesterday.
