@rms Why shouldn't anyone who wishes (free from coercion) to die, be denied the right to do so painlessly? After all, people do attempt suicide, and those who survive are often horribly disabled, with no more hope for their situation than before the attempt. Allowing those people to die in a way they choose does not absolve society from its duty to help them, just as it does not when people commit suicide currently.
