       Listening to NA ep1620, Nikki Haley needs to turn in her South Carolina card. The SC natives I know would have immediately said the Civil War was over state’s rights and slavery was just one part of state’s rights.

       @Jill please read what SC said when they left. there's a lot of talk about the rules and structure but the only violation cited is concern over them being allowed to continue slavery and not having their fugitive slaves returned when they escape to other states. wanting other states to be forced by the federal govt to return the slaves to you seems the opposite of states' rights to me.https://avalon.law.yale.edu/19th_century/csa_scarsec.asp

       @wjmaggos My observation/post is that my experience with people born and raised in South Carolina are/were taught in school that the Civil War was over state’s rights. For Nikki Haley to not have that answer deeply ingrained makes me think South Carolinians would be hanging/shaking their heads. (The ones I know would be.)Per Wikipedia, she was born in Bamberg and attended Orangeburg Preparatory School (that probably didn’t teach state’s rights) and then graduated from Clemson.

       @Jill ok but there's clear text to read. don't schools push propaganda? the declaration lines up with what you said but the only way that it says state's rights were being threatened was over the issue of slavery. if a red state seceded in two years after Democrats run and win control of all of govt based on arguing for a pro choice federal law, saying their state doesn't want abortion to be legal and women shouldn't be able to travel to get them, we'd say it was abortion, not state's rights.
