@bonifartius I worked for a Ukrainian farmer who escaped from the Soviet Union while Stalin was in power. He was in his mid 60s and I was about 16 when I worked on the farm he owned in the USA. He hiked out of Ukraine alone at 14 years old and later got his mother and two siblings out. They were living with him when I was doing farm tasks for cash.

@bonifartius The Soviet Union used communism as rhetoric like MAGA uses freedom as rhetoric.The USSR, at least while Stalin was in power was practicing state capitalism and fascism. Fascism isn't guys in shiny boots marching on old newsreels. Fascism is an economic system in which the state and corporate power is merged into a single entity. It doesn't matter if the state owns the corporations like in the USSR or if the corporations own the state like in the modern USA. The workers never controlled the means of production. The aristocracy was replaced with bureaucracy and the feudal landlord was replaced with a state administrator.Slavery in the USA was also corporate ownership of the state. The southern plantation owners had huge amounts of money to wield control over the state.

@yellowbrickc Slaves in the 1800s and women since last year do not have full legal ownership of their own bodies in the USA. They are property of right wing Christian fundamentalists at least in Texas and most other Southern states. Interesting that the former slave states are also the states jumping to own women's bodies now.
