@RedCyberPandaz@zoner.work @Ukko@akko.disqordia.space @40 iOS is definitely backdoored in some way. I'll believe that if they open source it and it undergoes an independent audit that confirms otherwise. Always assume a proprietary OS is full of backdoors lol.

@40 @RedCyberPandaz@zoner.work @Ukko@akko.disqordia.space At least with Android you can actually install your own software and throw the google garbage out. Good luck doing that with an iphone lol.

@40 @dushman @Ukko @RedCyberPandaz iOS is for women and blacks though, so it's automatically worse

@dushman @RedCyberPandaz @40 @Ukko So many dumb and annoying design decisions in both Android and iOS.Sleeping on an input socket, thereby using effectively no compute nor battery until kernel wakes you up? Can't have that, you have to register with the system with a special non-portable API instead and then get to eat so much more IO, compute and battery power with the churn it involves. @dushman @Ukko @40 @RedCyberPandaz I'd hedge that iOS wasn't always backdoored, if it is... it's relatively recently. That is, there was pretty big news about the U.S. government entities asking for a backdoor in 2016 - ( https://youtu.be/zsjZ2r9Ygzw?si=hNbK1d6Ba4Km2_pF ).That's been a few years before now, but it's 9 years out from the initial release of iOS, so if there were backdoors even earlier on, they weren't so embedded that it couldn't be removed.

@dushman @Ukko @40 @RedCyberPandaz Via that same argument, never trust OSS tools and products either, because then you'd have to trust them to keep you safe, and... ( https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heartbleed ).

@AT1ST@mstdn.ca @Ukko@akko.disqordia.space @40@den.raccoon.quest @RedCyberPandaz@zoner.work Thing is open source software can be audited for anything malicious by yourself and all the other users. Proprietary software cannot.

@AT1ST@mstdn.ca @Ukko@akko.disqordia.space @40@den.raccoon.quest @RedCyberPandaz@zoner.work There have been countless instances of proprietary software vendors not even disclosing known vulnerabilities and taking ages to fix them

@dushman @Ukko @40 @RedCyberPandaz There are also examples of an OSS tool having an issue, and it taking a person who grew up from childhood, got a degree in the field, then went and made the change to a codebase to fix a problem that was around when they were a child, and still was until they fixed it.
